Check out Dimenshift on Steam too!

While investigating strange occurrences on a now-desolate planet, you fall through a portal that takes you to a strange place.

Welcome to "The Disparate,"

a space outside of our Universe, where the physical laws don't quite seem to work right. A space where direction is meaningless.

As you try to escape this maze-like dimension, use the Dimenshift Device to "shift" through walls and evade the "Machines". Explore a strange place that doesn't quite make sense. Discover secrets, and maybe uncover the mysterious origins of this place.

What lies deeper in the Disparate?

Is it danger? Power? Fiction? Reality?...

...Hope?

No, probably not that one.

Is Dimenshift for me?

While I of course want people to buy Dimenshift, I really hate the idea of someone spending money on it just to not like it. And Dimenshift isn't a game for everyone, it can be tricky and frustrating at times. So to prevent people from having a bad time and to help you know if Dimenshift is a game you'll like, here are some questions:

  • Do you like platformers?
  • Are you good at platformers?
  • Do you prefer exploration-focused games to linear ones? (E.g. do you like Super Mario World better than Super Mario Bros. 3? Or Super Mario 64 or Odyssey over Super Mario Galaxy?)
  • Is finding secrets in games important to you? Are you disappointed when a game doesn't have a lot of useful secrets?
  • Do you like figuring out a game's mechanics on your own?
  • Do you like mysterious sci-fi vibes?
  • Do you like mazes? Do you like getting lost in games?
  • Are you persistent in games? (E.g. you don't tend to give up easily if you can't figure something out)

If you answered yes to the majority of these questions, I'm sure you'll love Dimenshift!

Curious if the itch version and the Steam version are the same or not given the difference in price between them.

Thanks for asking! The Steam version and the itch version are exactly the same, with exception to achievements, which are only available on Steam.

I may also be slower to put out any updates on itch. If I find a bug, the fix is going on Steam first.

Because of this and other Steam features, and the fact that itch takes a lower cut of the sales, I decided to make the itch version cheaper.

Really well done, enjoyed!

My only real criticism is that the music is rather limited, and that the combination of scrolling and screen-wrapping in the same direction doesn't feel very well.

(1 edit)

Thanks! The music is definitely something I'm working on before the full release, I plan to make it more dynamic.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about scrolling and screen-wrapping, though. Are you just referring to how the camera moves when the player is warped around? Or is there a specific level/part of the game that feels awkward?

In any case, thank you for playing and for leaving feedback!

Yes, I was referring to the warping around. This would feel better if it were exactly at screen borders, no scrolling.

OTOH a bit later you combine it with an orientation switch, which makes it less weird. Maybe already use some height difference at the first instance of it too so it feels less like a screen wrap? As it is, it's at first some kind of odd middle ground.

Ah, I see what you mean now. I've tried to make the game playable at different aspect ratios, and so making that level just have a plain screen wrap wouldn't really work.

I'll see if I can think of some solution (changing the height isn't a bad idea but would mess with the level design a bit), but as it is I don't feel it's too much of a problem.

I definitely appreciate the feedback, though, and thanks for elaborating!

ok, no joke, if this keeps developing, and with a lot of polishing, i believe that this could become the indie GAME OF THE YEAR.

The only thing i miss in this game is a more intuitive way to discover how tf things work

Wow, thanks! Though I doubt it'll be GOTY, I'm happy to know you like it! I'm still working on this game and hope to get it to completion within a reasonable amount of time.

I appreciate the feedback! Could you be more specific on what you found unintuitive? A few aspects of the game are supposed to be mysterious/vague, so knowing what exactly you have in mind would help me make the game better.

I played your game.

Very fun game with an interesting, well-implemented mechanic.  One suggestion - there should probably be a visible indicator to show you where you are when shifted, like a dotted outline of the player.  I can see the ripples when walking, but it makes things very difficult during tricky jumps.

Thanks so much for playing, and for your feedback!

I intended for that to be part of the challenge, not knowing exactly where the player is. However, I've gotten similar feedback from others. How would you feel about it being a sort of difficulty or accessibility option?

(+1)

Ehhh...I don't think it really adds anything to the game though.  "Tricky platforming" and "invisible character" are two concepts that just don't mix well.  There are better ways of adding challenge.

Okay, thanks, I appreciate it! I'll keep it in mind as I get more feedback.

Well done! I really liked sitting back and playing this with a controller. Very cool mechanic and level design. I look forward the future updates!

Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed it, and appreciated the controller support.

I've gotten enough interest in this game I'll definitely keep working on it!

(Thanks for the follow, also)
